The first official Moto2/125cc test of the year finished at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia on Wednesday, with Julián Simón and Marc Márquez the fastest riders in each respective category.
The first use of the official Honda engines which will be used in the inaugural Moto2 season in 2010 allowed the first true level of comparison to be drawn amongst the riders, and 125cc World Champion Julián Simón of the Mapfre Aspar team showed he is more than ready for the step up by setting the fastest time of the test with a lap of 1’37.156, set on Tuesday.

Fiat Yamaha Riders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo yesterday rounded off a successful three-day visit to Indonesia, one of the most important markets for Yamaha. Rossi came straight from testing in Malaysia last week, whilst Lorenzo flew out from Spain, where he has been recuperating at home from an injured hand.

BMW will return to the Isle of Man TT in 2010, it has been announced. The involvement of the German manufacturer is another major boost for the event, which recently announced a KTM superbike will race this year and that the 2010 TT will see the British racing debut of a Moto2 Grand Prix machine.

The first day of testing with the official Honda engine is over for the Moto2 class, and finally we have some kind of indication of both what the lap times and what the relative strengths of each rider, team and chassis are. And those indications are throwing up some very interesting surprises.
